Canada Shifting gear at high rpm :(

Hi, I own a 8th gen. corolla A/T and ive been have problems with it shifting gears at very odd rpm. If I floor it, it will go all the way to 5800-6000 rpm then shift gears. And if I drive normally the gears dont shift until I take my foot off the gas pedal a bit. Normally will shift gears at around 3000-3200 rpm.
One of my buddies has the same car and when i depressed the gas pedal fully, it wud go up to 2200-2500 rpm and *BAM* it will switch gears right away. Any suggestions on what the problem might be???

...**Also i had the transmission rebuilt a couple of months ago, due to slipping of the gears...I dunno something to do with solenoid or something :S**...

at full throttle it should shift at or near red-line. at part throttle it should upshift at lower rpms. if you hold about 1/4 throttle it should upshift 1-2 at something well below redline, i don't know for sure.

Also depends on the temperature of the transmission - some will not upshift or go into overdrive until a certain temperature threshold is met.

Just like Bitter mentioned - my 4-speed auto will run almost to redline (couple hundred RPM short) if I stomp on the pedal. Part throttle upshifts at 2000-3000 RPMs, and if I'm light on the gas, it will upshift very quickly.

You buddy's car should have shifted higher unless there is an issue with the transaxle. Also with the 4-speed transaxle (electronically controlled), depending on how you drive, will influence shift strategy. The car learns from how you drive and will shift accordingly.
