2000 LE: Extra cigarette outlets?

Hey.

I use my cigarette outlet thing for charging electronics like my iPod. Recently, when I pulled out the charging thing that plugs into the outlet, it took out some of the "insides" of the outlet.

Putting it back together, I found that the charger no longer works. The pieces included with my outlet include:
-The charger (or the cigarette lighter itself)
-The metal framing the charger plugs into
-A clear plastic rim (which looks cool when the green light comes on at night)
-A plastic-ish black rim (which outlines the whole area)
-A white plastic inner frame which connects to the wires and stuff

To make matters worse, a piece of the white thing broke off -- which I don't think is that essential....
A piece of the clear plastic is cracked... which probably made the whole thing come out in the first place

Blah. I'm not smart enough to fix it myself.

I was just wondering if there's alternate chargers somewhere in the car? My sister had a 2002 Corolla (same generation) and she claims she had others... but I can't find any.

Thanks.

Pictures forthcoming.

There might be one inside the glovebox - some cars had it in there as an auxillary 12V source. Otherwise - you'll have to look into reconnecting the existing unit, if it became disconnected.

Find out if the 12V source is out or the iPod charger is busted. Easy to check out - just plug the iPod charger into another car - if it works in that car, but not yours - then you know the outlet in your car is out. Pretty easy to fix - since the outside trim broke off, be easier to just replace the whole lower trim portion. Before you yank the lower dash apart to get at it - make sure the CIG fuse is not blown. The fuse panel is on the driver's side kick panel - up under the dash.

Local salvage yards would be the least expensive option to go - probably get that for a few dollars. Dealership or bodyshops are other sources - but you'll pay retail at those places.

Do the 98-00 Corollas not have the second 12v power port next to the emergency brake?

If you actually broke the cigarette lighter receptacle (next to the ashtray), your best bet is to find another unscratched "heater bezel trim" from salvage. Check the cigarette lighter for rust.

If your aim is to recharge your iPod, rather than using the cigarette lighter, wire up a power inverter with USB charger to your battery and keep it under your seat. Then plug the USB iPod cable into it to charge.

If it doesn't work, then maybe you can just buy an auxiliary 12v outlet from Checkers and hook it up to the power source and just groung the other wire. I want to do that for an extra power source.

I think maybe you could get it with the S too. But the thing is it only comes with the Automatic because of the taller console (5-speed armrest is lower to alllow room to shift IIRC)

I want one too. I wonder if that's something I could put on my 99 CE.

Its nice to have it. I use it to air up my inflatable kayak with the electric air pump which is so much nicer than airing it up with a hand pump which takes forever and wears you out. I use it to power the gps at times also.
