Corolla plugs at 192,000 KM?

Ok, so while at Canadian Tire buying....tires..I thought maybe I should get some spark plugs since my 01 Corolla CE has 104,000 KM on it (65,000 miles). When I got home I checked the owners manual and it says replace iridium plugs at 192,000 KM! Wow. So I guess there is no benefit to replacing them now. I will try and have a look at them first, but, unless they are in bad shape, I imagine I should let them go until at least 180 000 + KM's?

Is it difficult to do your own plugs on an 01 Corolla CE? I've done them on Chevette's and Mazda 323's and a Ford Probe, but nothing with DOHC etc. What length extension do I need?

thanks,

P.S. Apart from a rattling from the exhaust that needs attention, the car runs fine and has very good starting, power and acceleration etc.

I got my plugs from the dealer (Denso). Cheaper that auto parts store, go figure.
A 12" extension would work for sure.

iridium plugs will last that long. just wait till the recommended intervals or wait till plug related problems appears.

if i remembered it right, i used a 6'' extension.

couple of notes, use iridium plugs as replacements only and don't attempt to adjust the gap for a used iridium plug.

Fair enough. I imagine at 100 000 KM there and feeling responsive, powerful engine performance would mean there is no immediate need to check out the plugs anyhow. Perhaps after 125 000 KM's I'll take a look, or whenever I run into problems.
