Muffler help...

hey guys...
I live in NJ and my inspection date is comming... I need to replace my muffler because the bolt on the mount was rusted and broke so the muffler dragged and it got damaged... since I need to fix it I was thinking about replacing it.... wat do u guys recommend.....
I want something to sound deeper but not too loud.... something tht will sound nice but not too loud... what do u guys recommend.. if possible something i have a chance at finding at a parts shop instead of ordering...
anyone has any suggestions?? pleasee...
thanks

just lettin ya know... any aftermarket muffler worth installing that isn't rice, wont be on a parts store shelf. you can order good mufflers from a parts store but the good top name mufflers aren't stocked, they cost to much to languish on the shelves.

You can probably get a universal "turbo" muffler put on the car at an independant shop for around $40-$50 out the door (~$30 for the muffler, 5 minutes to hang it on the hanger and drive on new bolts.)

Looks like a regular muffler, just baffled a little differently on the inside. Usually has some sort of warranty. If you go with a cat-back system - don't skimp and get a cheap, eBay one - most are pretty loud or blatty. If you plan on replacing it with a quality system - get Borla or Magnaflow for just the muffler, Apexi and Greddy have some decent catback pieces. Apexi World Sport series is a SS catback that keeps noise levels in the low 80 dB range - well within the legal sound limit for most areas. Avoid fart cannon mufflers - some places will fail you right away - many are louder than the 95dB threshold that many states use as a limit.
