Hi everyone, I have some question regarding the cruise control of 8th gen corolla
A friend of mind is parting out his corolla and I am thinking to get the cruise control system (for my 01 LE without cruise control). Is it difficult? What are the parts that I need to remove?
Or maybe someone got the links on how to do it. I am an *OK* guys with tools, but not professional.
The obvious and relatively easy thing you need to pull:
Cruise control actuator in the engine bay, and the cable that goes from there to the throttle body.
The cruise control brain box to the right of glove compartment.
The switch above the brake pedal (I have one for sale if he fails to pull that for you )
And his entire steering wheel with the cruise stalk. Again I have the stalk for sale if he fails to pull that for you.
To make the retrofit really factory grade you will need to pull the cowl wire that spans the entire width of the car between firewall and dash panel, at least all the wires that lead to the brain box, actuator, and that brake switch, and the cruise stalk, INTACT ie. no cutting.
I know what this entails, but I never really have a need to do it , so no DIY.
Oh and when you are done extracting things, you need to remove the passenger side fender to expose the same cowl wire so you can thread the actuator wire through it.
Might as well see what other things are on your friend's car that you don't have, and grab those too.

Hey, I just installed an aftermarket cruise control kit in my 02 corolla. It was fairly easy and works great. (it was also ALOT cheaper than the $800 Toyota quoted me).

My understanding of this is that there is no generic wires for all Corollas.
Often in the Toyota, there are the same wires for all models but with unused connections left unatached if the option is not in the model.
So, there is no chance I can find a cruise control wire left unatached if I don't have the cruise control option ?
Dig up old thread !!

I have one such intact kit sitting in my basement up for grabs, because I enjoy doing this kind of extraction.
For example in a 01 there would be unused wires for fog light, power mirror (only some of it), and probably AC. Not cruise control though. I also saw some AT related wires hanging unused in a MT rolla. And there is also wires related to clutch pedal and cruise control in my born-AT Little Pig, which I made use of when I converted it to MT. So some wires are there for missing options, some are not.

If no one else is buying it, I will definitely consider buying your kit. This is just another one of the many things I want to do to my Corolla (too many) ugh. The CE leaves room for a lot of improvements.
I pulled all the parts off a '99 auto to install on my '01 manual Corolla, as well as removed the dash, pulled the "cowl wire" harness, opened it all and removed all cruise wiring - at least I sure hope i got it all. Not a bad score for under $140 in parts including a LE dash cluster with tach and the variable intermittant wiper switch. The donor car had what I believe to be a clutch switch connector tied up, and after all wiring directly connected to a cruise component was removed with the excess cut off, that "clutch swich connector" and about 2' of wiring was also disconnected from everything. Might have been an oops on my part.
So, in the end, my "harness" consists of 4 wires to the actuator, all wires in the cruise module connection, 2 ground connections into the big ground connector on the right side, 2 connections into the blue junction block above the heater box, one wire into the rear bottom connector of the left power distribution block, one to the lower front connector on the dash fuse panel, 2 of the 4 wires to the brake switch, and 3 wire in one plug, 4 in another that connect near the ECM. I also removed the 4 wires from the bottom of the clockspring which run to the other side of one of those connections beside the ECM.
Do any of you fine fellows still have a wiring diagram, as well as any tips based on the above info. Thanks.
