I've thought of that already but many people have told me that the paint will start to chip after a year or so

A nice paint job won't be cheap.

A cheap paint job won't be nice.

Pick one.

you can get your car detailed.... you need special bufferes special lotion things and special buffer heads. my buddy just opened his own shop... its still pretty expensive.

I read in some magazine about some 3 step paint restorer kit. I think it was a Meguiars product. But I can't find it anywhere... I was wondering if anybody has either heard of it or used it?

A lot of manufacturers have their own versions of this system. It consists of a paint cleaner, followed by a polish, then sealed with a wax. I would use the autopia formula for a complete exterior detailing and choose the products myself.

1. Wash
2. Clay Bar
3. Wash again
4. Polish (Medium or heavy cut depending on condition of paint)
5. Polish again (fine cut)
6. Swirl remover
7. Wax
8. Final buff

Invest in a PC7424 buffer and some cutting pads to do the polishing. This will easily pay for itself over time.

However, if you're paint is severely oxidized from the California sun, then a new paint job may be the only option of restoring it's finish.
