how to change wiper/washer fluid switch

Mechanic told me my wiper/washer fluid switch has to be changed to get the washer fluid part to work. He tested the pump and it works but the switch in the steering column is bad. I need some advice on how to change it.

Don't believe you will need to pull the steering wheel - at least I didn't on my Matrix. Should be able to reach the wiper switch by just removing the lower steering column panel (something like 3 screws) and pressing a claw on the wiper switch to remove it. But I don't remember of the switch is on the side or under the spiral assembly on the 8th gen - if it is underneath it - chances are high that you have to pull the steering wheel off.

It is possible that the switch is still OK - just a bad connection (wiring issue) between the switch and the pump. Only way to know for sure is to test the connections on both sides. If you have a multimeter on hand you could buzz out the bottom of the switch itself.
