For anyone who read my last post where I was tripping out about my cooling system and some other stuff during my initial start-up after the rebuild; well, I was basically just trippin'. The engine ran great except for the ticking I was hearing coming from the cylinder head. After I checked valve clearances, I pulled the cylinder head for the second time. I shipped the $400 remanufactured head back for a refund, then had my old one resealed, cleaned, and resurfaced. The machinist told me my valve job was tits and no need to spend the extra cash to redo it. So $160 out the machine shop, $200 bucks in replacement gaskets and head bolts, and a dozen hours later I had my old head back on. Purrs like my kitten now. Since I found a small scratch on the top of three of the new pistons, I'm blaming the problem on cylinder head thickness. So, after 2 months of diligent efforts and about $2200, I successfully completed my first engine rebuild. Just passed smog too! Now I'm gonna reward myself with new wheels and a short shifter. Thanks for everyones help through-out the process! Now for some long overdue pictures:
