Corolla Rear Speaker

Can anybody tell me what is the OEM speaker size (Back side) of toyota corolla 2000.

Is the speaker wiring is in there (means already installed by the company) or I have to get it done from outside vendor. Actaully I can't see the speaker wiring anywhere in the trunk (but someone told me that it has to be there)

Please help

You can put up to a 6 3/4" round speaker back there - all depends on the speaker itself, as there are all a little different. I currently have some 6 1/2" one back there and they fit the space just fine. Just had to fabricate a bracket so that I could reuse the existing screw locations on the deck plate - otherwise, I would have had to drill more holes.

If there is any wiring - it would under the rear seatback. Once you pull the rear seat off (easy, just pull upwards on the front lip of the bottom cushion, then unbolt the rear seatback, pull the deck cover off - you'll see the speaker wires right there if there are present. Toyota does make running changes from time to time - cannot guarantee for certain that the wiring is there - but you have a very good chance that they are present.

The speakers in the rear deck are 6.5" round. The wiring should be there, if you can't see it, it's most likely hidden under the rear deck cover. You will have to remove the rear deck to change the speakers. It's pretty easy if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and have fold down rear seats.

The speakers themselves have red and black wires soddered to them.

Are you looking to replace the rear speakers?

No, actually there is NO prefitted speaker from the company.

Is this a VE we are talking about? Our old 96 Corolla SD had no speakers in the back either. I installed new speakers in the rear deck, and the wiring was there under the rear deck cover.

I had to remove the rear deck out to access the factory wiring. Either way the wiring was there under the deck, and it should be there for you as well.

Good luck

Look up from inside the trunk to first check if the holes in the steel for the speakers exist.

If you're going to at least cut some holes in the rear deck trim anyway, and use your own speaker grilles (e.g. the ones included with the speakers you buy), since you don't have the OEM ones, I'd go the extra mile and install larger speakers, such as these: W 200 X-Plain - Rainbow 8" Midrange, $260/pair.

Even with 6.5" speakers, not all fit in the existing holes cut in the steel for the OEM speakers. There's not much room for the cradle, mostly just the magnet. To fit deeper speakers with larger cradles, the McGyver solution is to use tin-snips to cut up to the edge of where the plastic bracket sits (which is actually 6.5" sized), and then use pliers to fold back the tabs you've just made from the cuts. Then use electrical tape to cover those folds Another option is to use a Dremel cutting wheel to carefully cut the steel in a circle-like shape and then sand the new edge.

So, again, if you're going to bother with that anyway, and you're not using the OEM grills in the rear deck trim (since you don't have them), might as well cut for 8" instead anyway.

Of course, you'll need to fabricate your own speaker brackets then. MDF will help eliminate some rattling anyway.
