How do I Disable Auto AC when set to Defrost

2000 Corolla needs 2 immediate changes:

1.) disable DRL's which I may have figured out.
2.) diable auto AC when climate control knob set to Defrost. ANY ASSISTANCE IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

THANKS

There was a pretty decent write up on Matrixowners.com for a A/C defeat on defrost mode. Basically had to pull the control rod that actuated the A/C operation on the defrost setting. That way, when you turn it to the defrost setting - the control rod no longer moves with the knob - hence no automatic A/C engagement. You can still turn on the A/C by pushing the A/C button. I've done this on my Matrix - but haven't tried it out on the Corolla yet. So I'm not 100% sure there is a similar control cable in the 8th gen Corolla.

Why would you want to? The reason the A/C comes on is to dehumidy the air before blowing on the windshield. The dehumidified air will defrost/defog the windshield faster than moist air.

The climate control system is designed that way for a reason.

some of us like to run the heat on the windsheild in the winter to keep the ice off and snow melted, we don't need dry air for that and we're not trying to defog the windows, just melt the ice on the outside with heat. no need for the AC to be on then in the winter wasting gas.

If you allow the compressor to kick it to clear the glass then later on there will always be more moisture present. No question it does work great, but it also creates other issues as well. I just use heat and crack open the rear windows when possible.
