I've just spent 30mins looking through the forum about anything on engine swaps but didn't get the answers I was looking for. So I must ask...what are some possible compatible engine swaps with a 2001 corolla. My CEL came on and I've read threads about it, yes I could replace the rings and pistons, but the thought of having a more powerful engine under my car fascinates me. I appreciate the help and thoughts from everyone.
But most Corolla owners are too cheap to do something as crazy as an engine swap.
your wrong BTW i just recently did an engine swap... My 00 crank and main bearing basically shat themselves, so i purchased the 1ZZ from an 03 corolla, i love the extra 400RPM range, and engine feels a little more burly even though stock number show 03 -5 HP compared to 00 1ZZ

IMO, that's not an upgrade at all, but merely a replacement to keep the car running and on the road. 5 horsepower is minimal at best.
If my engine were on it's last legs, I would use that as a perfect excuse to upgrade to more power if I had to keep the Corolla. 2ZZ-GE swaps would be the first thing to cross my mind if I had an 8th gen.

I also put in a new engine in my since my old one shat itself. I don't consider replacing the old with the same but newer engine a engine swap. I did have the thought of a 2ZZ-GE cross my mind and a manual swap. In the end it wasn't worth the money. Now i'm trying to save up my money to get a WRX. I don't really care for the STI i rather have a WRX and just upgrade suspension and maybe a couple of other small mods.
