options for headlights

I joined here awhile ago because I had a question, but never really got interested in customizing my car. So far i've only tinted the windows, put vent visors on, and installed a mesh grill. I'd light to do something to the headlights but not sure what yet.

The current lights are kind of yellowy and dull. I want to get like a hyperwhite or whatever bulb, but I don't know what I'd need. I assume the bulb won't just fit into a stock housing. Is there a very white bulb for a stock headlight? or do I need an aftermarket one?

I already have fog lights, and in washington one can only have two pairs of lights on the front at one time. I want to do something nice to my current low/high beams. Can I just throw in a high intensity bulb? or do I need to get a whole new headlight to encase it?

Also, kind of randomly, is it possible to clean up old headlights and make them look clear and now yellowy?

Meguiars PlastX for the headlights.

You can find many different H4 halogen bulbs on ebay.

what about xenon lights? I was reading up on them and I'm not sure whether I could just plug them in and be all set or would I need a conversion kit or something. Anyone have any knowledge on this subject?

Xenon bulbs are generally used in HID systems. They cannot be wired straight into you existing system, as they are not able to power them up correctly. You'll need a ballast and igniter to get them to light up. Keep in mind, that HID bulbs also work differently than standard halogen - you might have an issue if you run them in a stock housing without taking the proper precautions. One is glare - especially to the other driver, the other is they made not pass inspection - some states would consider this modification "for off-road use only". In those cases, you cannot get the car registered for the street - just a warning.
