00 Corolla Burns Oil

I have a 95 Corolla 170k miles and a 00 Corolla 130k miles. Both started burning oil around 125k miles. What type of oil should I be using? I have been using 10w-30 or 5w-30 depending on the season, but my 95 is starting to go through a quart every 600 miles, instead of 1000-1500 like it used too. I have heard the 1.8 L DOHC motors are known for "bad" piston rings, something that I don't want to swap out. The 00 corolla was a quart low at the last oil change, so I am thinking it will have similar problems soon. Other thoughts or additives that might help would be appreciated.

i've never heard 1.8L DOHC all have oil problems and i know enough people with 1.8L DOHC engines to say that it's completely untrue.

on the other end 8th gen 1zz-fe engine, which is a 1.8L DOHC, in corollas have been known to have oil problems. it has been addressed millions of times on this forum. do a search, you'll most likely find what you looking for.

Additives will only provide a band-aid solution. If the problem persists or gets bad enough, then a piston and re-ring will be the only long term solution you can rely on.

Since you're a new member here, I'll let it slide, but you know that cross-posting in two different forums for the same question/concern is not allowed.
