K&N Air Filter frustration!

So I own a 2002 Toyota Corolla LE, and I wanted to buy a K&N replacement filter for it.
Went to my local auto parts store, and ordered part # 33-2252, as listed on the K&N website for the '02 model year. Upon replacing the filter, I found out that it didn't fit, and i was quite puzzled. So after looking up the dimensions for the filter, turns out the dimensions of my current air filter matched that of the filter suggested by K&N for the 2001 model year Corolla. So I'm assuming that when it came time to build my car, Toyota had a few '01 airboxes lying around, and threw one of those in there instead. So for all 2002 Corolla owners, check your airboxes before buying a filter!

Happens alot for aftermarket parts - this has nothing to due with your particular airbox. Don't worry - you got the right airbox. Its the vendor's fault for getting you the wrong part.

This is because cross market model introductions. For the North American market - the 8th generation Corolla runs from 1998-2002, the 9th generation starts with the 2003 model year. Other markets may have their 9th generations introduced a year sooner, in 2002 (UK, JDM, Aus, SE Asia, etc.), their respective 8th generation Corollas actually ran from 1997-2001 model years.

Some aftermarket vendors are aware of this and will market the part as being NA or other market specific. Some vendors are not away of the change or don't care. I just look up parts for a 2001 Corolla, just to be on the safe side - as the 2002 model year was basically a carryover from the 2001 model year - same body, parts, etc.

Just make sure to oil it properly. Too much oil and you'll foul the maf sensor.
