2002 ATF fluid filter change and mileage

Getting ready to change/flush the fluid in my '02 corolla 4 speed auto.
What fluid? DEX III or newer as 2002 and '03 had same tranny, different fluid (maybe '03 just recieved a better fluid for..). And recommended mileage between mileage. Mines at 92 kmiles of wife driving.

Dex III every 30k miles. I saw somewhere that Dex IV will damage the trans. Someone please confirm or deny if that is true.

I guess I need to completely flush it via two bucket routine to ensure torque converter is changed too. And filter.

Did you mean Dexron VI (Dexron 6)? I'm pretty sure they jumped from III to VI - only to complicate things for some shops. Supposedly backward compatible with all Dexron III applications - but the fluid has better lifespan.

I haven't heard of any issues as of yet - but this fluid spec was just introduced in 2005. Could be some time before there are any compability trends that point to a possible problem, if there will be any.

Since they still make Dexron II/III fluids - I would just stick with what is recommended. Once they kill off the Dexron III licensing and no longer can sell it - then I'd have no choice but to switch. Cheapest I've seen is about $7/quart for Dexron VI - for that kind of money, I'd rather pump in Synthetic ATF (Dexron III spec).
