ac problem

hey guys i have a 99 corolla, bought it used couple yrs ago, 116k miles, and the ac never worked ever since i bought it..took it to a mechanic friend who pumped freon in it and said he found no leaks...it worked for 2 days then stopped..i asked the toyota dealer and they said they'll charge around $250 (ballpark) but i wanted a warantee which they wouldnt give...he said its an old car and i cant garantee you something else wont stop working after i fix this problem....should i do it with them...or any other suggestions? thanx!!

The AC should work. I bought a 2000 and everything was rinning just find. I vaccumed out the old refrigerant and recharged at school and it's alittle colder but works awesome. So it it doesn't work it's one or both of two things, there is a leak somewhere probably hard to find. AND/OR one of the air conditioning components are damaged and needs replacing, which could cost you. or a third could be an electrical problem. FIrst thing I can think of if your friend said their are no leaks, try and check if the belt driven AC compressor engages when the AC is turned on.
