1999 Corolla front and rear speaker depth

I am going to replace the front and rear speakers in my 1999 corolla with 6.5" speakers.

What depth can they be without affecting the front window and without modifications to the rear? Crutchfield lists speakers up to 2-3/8" for the front. Anyone have experience of mounting speakers this deep?

Also, should I get 6.5" or 6-3/4"?

Thanks in advance.

my components are quite a bit deeper, I just made a MDF spacer and glued it to the door. I also angled it toward the cabin since the speaker kind for just aims toward the floor in it's stock location. Pretty easy job, and then speaker depth won't matter.

check out woofersetc.com too they have a little bigger selection than crutchfield, there is a nice CDT set with components, upstage, and rear fill for $350.

Won't using a spacer push the front of the speaker against the plastic speaker holes? Is there enough clearance?

I have these and they fit with no problem whatsoever. I wouldn't go as far as to make a spacer for deeper speakers. You'd have to cut out the speaker grille in the door and unless you're good with fiberglass it would be a real trick.

i swapped 6.5s into my doors. but i reused part of the exsisting speaker. i cut out the actual speaker, leaving a lip i could drill and bolt my new speakers to. worked like a charm. just have to find a way to reattach the units to the doors.

if I remember right, 3/4" MDF, though I angled it, so it's got and additional 3/4" on the bottom corner.

i took the door speakers out threw them in the garbage, i built a 1" MDF spacer to fit between the door and the door panel, i just the hole grill on the door panel the right size for my speaker and MDF, now i can fit 3-4" deep component woofers in there, i had a set of jbl c608 gti and they were big-and fit perfectly. I do custom stereo installs.

So there's 1.5" at the bottom? There seems to be a lot of clearance between the door and door panel then.

I assume that using a 1" spacer like this will not cause the woofer to rub against the door panel?
