Various problem with highmilage 00 CE

Hi all

So I have various problems with my CE:

has 144,000 miles

The engine:
It takes several cranks in order for the car to start up. It's worse when the car is cold.

Transmission:
When backing out of my driveway, after shifting into drive from reverse, the car is extremely sluggish. You could have your foot planted on the accelerator and you will only move at <5mph for at least 7+ seconds. Then all of a sudden it kicks in. I checked the tranny fluid and it's a bit discolored. A brownish color but still smells like petroleum.

Interior:
The driver's side door handle does not work. The handle itself is not broken but you can't open the door the from the inside. It only works from the outside. I saw this thread: (inside handle) but wasn't sure if it was just the inside door handle as it is still intact.

The driver's side window will go down but when you try to bring it up, it takes ages. It will get jammed and you have to wait a few seconds or up to 30-45 seconds and slowly inch it back up. Would this just be the regulator? Or the motor as well? If anyone can provide a DIY for removing the door panel, that'd be great.

Thanks.

BUMP, anyone? I was working on trying to replace the handle today but I don't know how to remove the wire from the handle? There isn't much slack and I don't want to be too forceful to break it.

Can anyone offer an ideas? How do you free the wire from that white clip/hole it is in?

My corolla was starting hard and idling rather rough. After compression test, I found cylinder #1 @ 25 pounds and cylinder 4 practically no compression. (Which I've diagnosed down to bad exhaust valves.) But anyways, as per the engine, IF it's idling bad along with starting hard, check compression.

Any engine codes?

It doesn't idle rough really once you start driving. However, the start is rough. Takes many cranks for it turn on. I don't know if it's throwing any codes as I just found out the check engine light bulb (behind the dash) had gone out so I'll have to see.
