Firing Order

So my friend put in some new plugs and wires and I'm not sure if he's correct.

He followed this image.

This is what the setup looks like now.

Can anyone confirm if this is the correct setup?

what year is your car? i know the 98, 99 1zzfe has the 1, 4, 3, 2 firing order. i dont know if its the same for VVTI 1zzfe
on the side of the coil pack, you should see the numbers, do they match your diagram above?

It's a 98 so it must be 1,4,3,2. I just don't know why the diagram said otherwise.

To be honest with you, I don't know if it's a VVTI. I'm kind of a beginner. I'll try to see if there's numbers next time.

its not a vvti if its the original engine and wire harness in your 98, i have the EXACT car, to tell if it has VVTI you would have to either look at the camshaft or look for a sensor type thing where the gears for the camshaft is on the outside of your head.

your firing order is 1, 4, 3, 2.
i believe engines with VVTI have different firing orders, that diagram is for a newer engine.

Fire it up and find out really quick.

1ZZ-FE with VVTii do not have separate spark plug wires - they use individual coil/ignitor packs on top if each plug setup. Firing order is listed as 1-3-4-2, but could be a typo in the FSB, the diagram you've listed is the same as the FSM and other sources that I've seen - so I'd assume that the diagram is correct.

I'd just fire it up and see if it runs. If it is off, it won't want to run.

I used 1,4,3,2 and it worked great. I noticed before it seemed sluggish when I had at 1,4,2,3

the diagram is correct for a newer engine but not this one.

1zz-fe's firing order is ALWAYS, and always has been 1-3-4-2

1-4-3-2 is the coil pack order when you look at the engine from the driver's side.

the information you guys posted are misleading.

you are so correct about the coilpacks number order, but for the 98 and 99 1zzfe its 1,4,3,2, newer ones are different(the one you said)

sorry, i didnt mean he was correct about the 98 1zzfe cause hes not. the firing order is 1,4,3,2 for that engine until 2000
for your engine its 1,4,3,2, for others and newer its different.

i think what you meant to say was the cylinder order it fires from the front (pulley side) of the engine at is what you said, 1342, but the coil packs on newer models fire a different way, i know this because i had a look at the vvti engine spark plug wires compared to a non vvti (years 98 and i think 99) and they fired on different cylinders. 1,4,3,2.
its kinda wierd eh

like i said before the firing order for the 1zz-fe is ALWAYS 1-3-4-2. the coil pack order is 1-4-3-2

the coil pack's order is not the firing order as it DO NOT fire from left to right

i thought i never had to explain this, but the crankshaft's configuration will not allow 1-4-3-2. as when cylinder 1 is on power stroke, cylinder 4 is on the intake stroke. 1 and 4 reaches TDC/BDC at the same time and 2 and 3 reaches TDC/BDC at the same time.

if you don't believe me, get a picture of the 1zz-fe crankshaft, you will see what i mean.
