2004 rear view mirror in 2001 model

01 model has only map lights in the rearveiw mirror. 04 rear view mirror also has auto dimming and compass feature in it.
Can I install 04 rear view mirror in 01 corolla.
What are the input wires in the 04 mirror harness. In 01 corolla there are only 2 wires going in and they are supposed to be for the map light only.

Looking at my info at hand the 04 mirror connects with a 7-pin connector (90980-11794). Pin 6 is ground, pin 1 is battery power (wire to your dome light's power source, it feeds your map light), and pin 7 is ignition-on power feeding your electrochromic mirror. Not sure if the other 4 positions are used.

I wonder if this can be made to work on a 98-00 with roof mounted mirror instead of windshield mounted.

Mounting 04 mirror on a 01 should not be too bad. A clip is glued to the windshield. See if that fits. The worse that can happen is that you will need to pull that off (careful!) and with a rear mirror repair kit, glue your 04 mirror on.

is the compass built into the mirror or does it rely on a module?
