Question Possible Misfire??

hi, i have a slight problem. I have had my 8th Gen (Automatic) close to a year now, and ever since February it has had a problem. It's kinda hard to explain so bare with me...

When im driving and the revs are around 2000rpm the tach likes to jump around. The needle jumps below, above, below and above then it will stop and then will do it again. It could only be a few hundred revs difference. However, i can feel a lack in power then a boost again all of a sudden when it happens. I have taken it to a few friends who know a little bit more than i do, and they said check my spark plugs, spark wires, and vaccum lines. I changed the plugs, got my wires inspected and vaccumm lines looked good. I also changed my PCV valve too (which looked like it had been on there since the car was built ). Now there is a VERY highpitched whistling noise coming from somewhere in the engine too. Hence i checked my vaccumm lines again . It is starting to drive me insane!!

Now im out of ideas

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY appreciated...

Also, is it leagal to have blacked out headlights?? i love the look, just dont wanna get pulled over!!

highpitched whistling is a vacuum leak. you need to recheck everything. including intake manifold gaskets, throttle body gaskets, brake booster line, etc. if you have trouble finding it, an old mechanics way to find a leak was to spray a little bit of carb cleaner, or what ever in area you hear the noise, listen for the rpms to change. use the little straw to help pinpoint the spot of the leak. hope this helps you.

I have already tried that with no luck. I will try again. If it does end up being this how much would it cost roughly??

i would agree that the mafs would be the cause for all the problems, but the high pitched whistling. that just screams vacuum leak, and personally i have never heard nor seen a mafs make such a noise. maybe its leaking around the mafs? that could also cause some of the symptoms.

edit: wait, my car used to do something very similar till i swapped to a new throttle body. i switched my idle air controll too. and then it stopped. check the iac and see if it is functioning properly.

Tried the top line of the Air intake manifold, no avail. Still going to change out the gasket. That way its a 100% guarantee its not that. Any oter ideas. It will have to wait till morning, but i will try everyting until i find it...

Exclamation

It goes from bad to worse.

Now, the little Rolla sprung a gas leak. Right under the injectors!! This just cant't get any worse can it. I finally took it to a shop. No other choice. I just hope it will work when i get it back.

EDIT: It works. Broken Injector ring. It was sucking in air at higher speeds. Then blew completely... $50 fix at the shop!!!

ok not fixed... but i did find the problem FINALLY! Its behind around the Air Intake Manifold. In front of the 3rd injector from the left as you look at the car head on. I used the old "Carb Cleaner Trick". I can get the gasket for $7 or $8. Its just labor I'm worried about...

its not that bad to pull the intake manifold off. worst part is removing the rad hose. i would do this if it were my car, i would buy one of the phenolic intake manifold gasket/spacers and install that. they have been proven to drop temps on many different car, so it would help keep the stock intake manifold from heat soaking soo much, not to mention they are reuseable. also while you got the manifold off, i would delete the coolant line to the throttle body too. again helps drop intake air temps. and clean up the throttle body and intake manifold the best you can.
