USA New 1998 Corolla - Mods / Transmission Ideas?

Hey everyone! I just got a 1998 Toyota Corolla and I love it so much! I was hoping for a 5SPD Manual but got an Automatic instead. It has new paint, got cleaned up, looks really good! I'll send you pictures once I get my camera.

Anyways, I was wondering a couple of things:

#1 Any mods / accessories I should look into?

#2 Is there any possible way to drive an Automatic like Manual? I just want stickshift so badly. Is it possible to get a TipTonic Shifter for it? I know it may seem like a stupid question but I just want to ask anyways.

#3 Regarding question #2: Or should I just wait to get a Manual for my next car.

Thanks guys! Look forward to talking to y'all!

1). Not really much you can do to these cars. I would just recommend keeping up with your maintenance schedule (oil changes) and keeping your tires properly inflated.

2). No and no.

3). Yes, it would be less expensive to get a car that came with a manual transmission.

well mods really depends on you, what are you looking for?

as for the tiptronic question, you can do it. but its EXTREMELY expensive due to the fact you would have to find and pull a complete powertrain from a mr2 spyder. they used a 5 speed sequential manual trans. it will fit into the engine bay, but the down side is its a ton of wiring, have to use the mr2 1zz, because the mr2 ecu talks to the smt ecu, have to use the mr2 wire harness which is shorter than our... etc.

as for a 5 speed swap, its pretty cheap to do. all you need is the shifter/cables, the pedals both brake and clutch, the trans, flywheel and clutch kit, clutch master/slave cylinders, and the lines. i would recommend looking for a c59 from a celica gt. but you would also have to use the shifter cables for the celica. parts are getting more common for our cars in the junkyards, well atleast where i live, so it shouldnt be too hard to find them. the pedals, shifter, and cables can all be used from a 7th gen, as well as the master cylinder. i dont know about the slave cylinder since i am using a c60 which requires a celica slave. if you are patient and look you can easily do this swap for about 500-900. i did my 6 speed swap for 500. but i bartered and traded alot for it. and ended up getting a trans with 2 synchros going out... but i would say do a 5 speed swap. you wont regret it.
