does anyone else use their corolla for rally purposes??
lol i understand that it is FWD, trust me it sucks,
but i still have fun doing it, i need new tires real bad,
(not cause of the dirt, just the fact that i haven't had any for awhile now)
i drive on these dirt roads on post (ft. hood) they work pretty well for me,
it's fun! i was just wondering if anyone does it other than me,
????
the roads you see in the background is what i race the rolla on haha
I don't use my COrolla myself but I wouold if I had an extra one. And don't worry about the FWD rally thing, back in the day when rallying was just starting, before AWD rally cars. FWD were favored over RWD cars, and at that point alot of them did better against the RWD cars too. Also they have ametuers that use FWD cars and run in diffrent classes but they run the same Rally as the WRC cars.
i've seen a matrix xrs at a rally in canada, but i'm sure it's just as important to have good stability as much as AWD, also dirt tires play a large factor in it too.
i'm going to get sum strut bars in the front and rear and new tires, i'll see how much that improves it
In August when I was heading home from a track day in Cayuga, the route my laptop plotted sent me unknowingly into an unpaved country road. It's pitch black and I have to put my HID on high to see things. LOL how I was scared, but that was wonderful.

i love driving me car in the dirt. and it actually handles it pretty well. there are a lot of unpaved roads where i live in texas and they all mostly consist of rocks; still my corolla handles like a champ!
i just got a new powersteering pump and pulley, that should help some
Do you get your Corolla sideways on the dirt? I would love to try it, but can't bring myself to do it. I always get the feeling I'm messing something up when I do manuvers. I wish I had a second, MT car to try things.

yes yes, and i don't blame you for not wanting to try, cause at times i feel my car is going to flip over. i recommend that if you want to try it, first practice in an open area, not a small road. i first learned in an open field of just dirt, how much gas you put on the pedal, breaking and steering all effects it too.
i don't use the hand break way, it's harder for me, too much hand movement. and i'm still trying to get over my fear of the fast turns on the dirt roads, i don't want to ruin my only car either, but practice makes perfect.
i should be ordering a strut bar this thursday to improve my handling some, plus i just put a lot of money into my power steering
Is your Corolla a MT or AT?
I have a AT and I've been practicing the left foot braking like the Professional Rally driver, and I can use my left foot to brake but still have to work on when to use the left foot braking.
Also with improving handling, I think you'll need like an h brace also and a rear strut bar. Because I have a front strut bar and I have full suspension, and I hear some creeking which I think is from the car flexing and warping abit while going over uneven surface. So what I'm saying is that more help is needed to stiffen up the chassis more. I wish I hda the money to like reinforce my Corolla or something. Because I think that would also help with the stability of the car at high speeds(which for me is only about 80 TOPS, haha).
Also dude you ever seen the Team Toyota Europe AWD Corolla that ran in the WRC? MAn, that Corolla was made for the dirt man, it was a two door hatch back version, but cars would preform just the same with the same modifications. Man the last two seasons the Corolla's were ran by Toyota, they were out preforming the 2 Subaru Impreza's and the one Ralliart Lancer in alot of the Rallies.

in europe and japan they sold the wrc corollas, but only a few were made. they also sold base model ones that were 2 door hatchback too i think. i know now they use the corolla runx more, which is pretty awesome when it's turbo or supercharged.
i was thinking the other day about the AWD matrix, since basically the matrix is a wagon corolla, i wondered if i could by the motor and transmission and put it on my, and even so, if i could get the XRS motor and use the AWD matrix transmission. i'm pretty sure if it were possible it would of been done already.
and my car is an automatic, i find it easier to drive it on dirt compared to a manual, but i guess you have to get the catch of it.
AWD has been dropping into a new-ish Corolla - but they pulled the drivetrain from the Celica GT-4. Fensport Corolla (9th gen?) and Millen's 7th gen Celica AWD project car. But those are $$$$. Sure it would be pretty cool to have, but the amount of money you'd spend - you could have kept the Corolla as is and bought a new STI or EVO.
I'm pretty sure the ratios in the AWD transaxle do not line up with the 2ZZ-GE powerband - that and exhaust manifold, downpipe modification to allow the driveshaft for the rear wheels would have really corked the breathing ability of the 2ZZ-GE. If Toyota made an AWD Celica GT-S /Matrix XRS /Corolla XRS - I would have been all over that one. As it is, I kind of muddled about until a good deal came up on Matrix XRS.
Woah I never knew they sold a WRC Corolla production model. What were the specs on that?
If you want to make a rally corolla with a engine swap, swap a 3sgte and AWD transmission, from the celica gt four that has the same power ability as the EVO and WRX. The 3sgte is Toyota's best four cylinder perfomance engine. Which, if swapped by yourself, could cost alot less than buying an EVO or a WRX. Also how bad ass would it be to be able to spank WRX's and EVo's with just a Corolla.

AWD > FWD.
From what I've seen, most cars that have completed that swap have had serious issues with traction and getting all that power down to the ground. The power handling limitations of FWD will make themselves known very quickly in that case.
If you want an AWD drive car, just buy an AWD car, if you want to stay with Toyota, then the old Celica All-trac was the only thing that remotely comes close.

Sorry dude, don't believe you. Alot of people on these forums talk people out of creative things from hearing or seeeing things rather than experiencing first hand. YOu maybe correct but I've also seen AWD Corolla's turn out awesome. Also, the 7th gen and 8th gen chassis came in AWD formats in other domestic markets, so it's not entirely out of the norm for a AWD Corolla.
