Should I get New Wires?

I have 133,700 miles on my 98 Corolla and have never changed the stock spark plug wires.

I have heard that they should be changed around 100k miles. Since they do not seem to be bad, I never really thought of changing them.

I was looking into some aftermarket plugs, like some NGK's. On Amazon I happened to find some that are supposed to be good, but are probably just snake oil.

Amazon Amazon

or

Amazon Amazon

I would like to hear from anyone who has either used these plugs, or changed theirs in general

The ones on the first link - will not work for your car. You have a 1ZZ-FE 1.8L engine. The second link (Magnecor) is a decent set - but will not do anything more for you than what the OEM set will do. Cannot "make" more power with special plugs or wires, but you can reduced noise or extend the lifespan of plugs and wires.

For plugs - stick with the OEM - dual ground prong copper plug, or you can upgrade to an platinum or iridium plug for longer service life (stick with single ground prongs with those plugs). Plug wires, as long as they are in good shape - no reason to change them. Like that old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Fish,

Thanks a lot for the input. I think I will leave the wires alone since they seem to be just fine. I just thought maybe there was some truth in the aftermarket plugs.

I am running iridium plugs in there right now and wanted the best combo possible.

I was really debating the pulstar plugs because I am kind of a sucker for those kind of claims.

I see that rollatuner uses them though and highly recommends them. So maybe when these go out, I will get some pulstars.
