i recently changed my shifter light on my 98 so i can try an help. in order to acess the bulb you have to remove the whole center console. its held on by a series of screws and bolts which IIRC there are two 10mm bolts in the footwells, two screws near the seats connecting the two pieces, and then two bolts under the little piece of fabric in the center compartment well. also, you may have to remove the hvac components but im not sure
... once everything is off the light is located on the driver side of the shifter toward the back. just twist and pull and it should come out
