Has anyone here replaced their own AC compressor?

I know this is one of the more expensive jobs to do...just wondering if it is possible to DIY and if there are any instructions available. I noticed online that this part can be purchased pretty cheap. Thanks.

It is a DIYer project - but it will be more involved. Also have to determine if there is any refrigerant left in the system or if it is completely empty. If there is refrigerant left, you can have it recovered by a HVAC shop, they'll dry the system, and refill it for a reasonable price. Not legal to vent this gas straight into the atmosphere - don't want to see anyone get a fine because of this. If the system is completely empty, the process may be more involved than just refilling - they have to put a vacuum on the system to draw out all the moisture, they may have to replace the orifice valve and replace the desiccant - or you'll have some problems down the road. Moisture/air in the system will cause all sorts of headaches.

Not actually hard to remove the compressor - have to purge the system (run the A/C if possible), disconnect the battery, evacuate the refrigerant, remove serpentine belt, disconnect the compression and discharge hoses (two bolts), disconnect three bolts holding the compressor.

Just becareful! AC parts are expensive and compressors are VERY sensitive. by doing it yourself...if something goes wrong you will not be covered by any warranty. ALL ac compressor manufacturers require it be installed by a licensed tech.

I wholesale distribute AC parts...anytime a warranty issue comes back I have to get the work order for it and attach a copy of it along with the companies business license etc for it to be honored. Best bet is to get the parts (not ebay crap) and take it to them and let do the work!... give me a minute and I will look up your vehicles ac specs for you

ahh just kidding I need the vehicle specs... I pulled a 2000 corolla...

there are two different compressors:
a Denso Brand; 10PA15C; 6 Groove .725in X 5.766in; Boss Mt; Bottom
and a nippondenso: Nipp; 10PA15C w/ Sensor; 6 Groove

Also, you must replace the expansion device, receiver-drier./accumulator and o-rings to validate the warranty;

I have 1 denso 10pac15c available NEW w/clutch $219 + Ship (about $9)

the Nippondenso brand is $184 + ship

I can get you the parts for the same price I sell to commercial accounts for but you really should consider having the ac professional do the work!
The complete kit with everything you need is $234 and about $12 to ship.

What's wrong withe the compressor? Also local parts places will take in the old part for a small discount off the new part. Sometimes it's not very much at all though. So inquire.
