Ticking noice

Hi All,

I feel that there are some ticking noices from the engine compartment of my corolla 98 while i acelerate. The sound is a bit strong while i first start the aceleration, and a while later that noice seem to be lower.

Could you please advise what are the posible problems?

Note: My car is around 80k now.

A ticking noise for a 1ZZ-FE can come from anywhere - depending on the extent of the noise and where it happens, could even be considered normal, as this engine is known to be relatively noisy.

You have to be more specific about the ticking noise - exactly what does it sound like? Can you hear the noise when the hood of the car is up? What happens if you rev the engine, ticking noise speeds up with engine rpms or with road speed? Does it do this in neutral and in gear - any particular gear or engine speed that makes it worse? Does the noise speed/intensity change with different amounts of throttle? Gets worse or better when the engine is under heavier load (driving uphill, A/C running, etc.) Have you checked oil levels, any recent maintenance done? What is the maintenance history for the car?

Yes, i can hear that ticking noice when the hood of the car is up (but i can hear it very clear only when i first start the engine in the morning).

I as well can hear that kind of sound when i rev the engine. The noice seems to be louder when i first start to acelerate, and a while later after the car moving then it seems to be weaker.

I have never try driving uphill, but i also can hear this kind of noice when the aircon is on (there is no different even the aircon is on or off). The oil level is ok, i checked.

I sent the car to service last month, and they said i need to change something at the engine block. Please refer to the picture in the link as i dont know what it is called http://www.park-flyers.com/tensioner_pulley.jpg

Is the problem with that kind of component could result to the ticking noice??

injectors or valves

^^^word. when it comes to this engine a ticking noise is injectors, valves vvt-i (but yours doesnt have it) piston slap or the VSV.
