Unhappy High pitch whistle/squeal...

My 98 rolla has a very high pitched whistle coming from the front of the motor. The noise sound like it is coming from above the intake mainfold, or somewhere around the valve cover. Could the valve cove gasket be the problem. Everyone I have spoke to said "air leak". I have had the vac. lines checked, replaced the intake manifold gasket, and replace the injector rings too. Any ideas??

Much appreciated.

Sounds like an intake leak, do you have a mechanics stethoscope or some fuel line, keep one end to your ear and probe around.

Could also try a dish soap bottle with water in it and spray around the area, if theres an air leak it will stumble.

Could also be an injector that has pulled loose or the seal/gasket has failed.

Ok, this problem has been around since i bought the car. I have had all the Vac. lines checked. The air intake manifold gasket had been changed as it was cracked. All injectors have been checked and the injector rings replaced. I used the carb cleaner trick and sprayed around earlier today... NOTHING lol.... still the high pitched squeal.... It really sounds like its coming from under the Valve Cover...??

Hate to be picky but, squeal or whistle?
If one water it's safer and one gets a noticeable stumble.
Use a screw driver on the valve cover with your ear to the top of the handle and go from the front to the rear listening for noise.
Also could try removing the serpentine belt in case a bearing or idle is bad.

I guess its a whistle noise. I never really thought about it as a whistle. However, the belts is good, all pully's are in check and no noise coming from over that side. Still right under the injector cover... when i removed the injector cover yesterday i re checked the valve cover by ear. like i said before it still sounds like its coming from the valve cover gasket. but is this possible. Also, a friend stopped by. He knows a little about cars. he heard the noise and automatically said "Air leak"....but WHERE??
