OEM CD player - known skipping problem?

Hi,
I just bought and installed a single-disc OEM CD player from eBay. Although I have not ruled out that I could have burned a couple poor quality CDs, the player seems to skip a lot and much of the skipping correlates with bumps on the road.

Is this a common issue with this generation of CD player, or is there possibly something wrong that I should contact the seller about? It has a 90-day "warranty". Maybe it just needs to be cleaned? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Older CD players will skip if they are jarred hard enough.

New CD playersdont skip because they will store the song its its memory, which cant be moved like a CD. Older CD players dont have this internal memory.

I havent had a OEM cd player, but I am willing to bet this may be part of the problem.

The OEM CD player sucks, so that may be what's causing the problem.

Considering how old it is, I'm not surprised.

The OEM CD player in our 99 VE has never worked. cleaning discc did no good either. As far as skipping goes, I think the CD's suspension would be at fault if the jarring was causing the skipping. I have an old school sony CD changer in another vehicle I own and it NEVER skips and if you take the case off of it, you'll see why. The transport is mounted within this cage where rubber discs absorb all the vibrations and shocks. I don't doubt that the newer units have electronic memories to help with that, but the OEM unit was and isn't one of Toyota's shining feats in reliability.
