OK, so I bought my granddaughter an '00 Corolla CE. Very nice Arizona, one owner car with a 4 speed auto. But, the spring (or whatever is in there) that holds the inside rearview mirror in the day or night position is missing/broken. The mirror just flops up and down when you hit a bump. She would like it fixed. I haven't had luck finding a brown replacement mirror, and it looks likd the after market mirrors glue to the windshield, rather than use the OEM mount.

Anyone have a creative solution? Is there an after market mirror that will connect to the OEM stem, or do I just stuff styrofoam into the mirror to make it stay in one place?

Also the washer fluid tank is rotting out on the fender side/top. Is there a source of those, hopefully new?

Thanks in advance for the help. FYI my wife and I are Toyota fans (she had a Supra and now a Camry, and I am on my second Tundra....gotta love those Toyota's)

I would say check the dealer or auto salvage. Might try www.car-part.com as you can check salvage yards in surrounding areas also and maybe get it shipped to you.

Thanks for the link for salvaged parts, that looks like a great resource.

I will get one there, if I cannot find a way to fix the existing one. I will see her car this week and remove the current mirror and see what I can do with that. If I find a fix, I will share it with the forum.

AAHH THAT site! i DATED the site owner/operators' daughter in high school. i'm not fooling. and it didnt end so great.

i've had the same problem you described. you can't fix it. you have to replace the whole mirror/mount assembly. i got one for 5 bucks at a local salvage lot. if a local salvage lot doesnt have AT LEAST one 8th gen in then i'll eat my hat. and i don't even OWN a hat. if they dont have ONE then i'll go out, buy a hat, and eat it.
