Question halogen lights

Hey guys,

im just wondering since i do a lot of night driving I've noticed my headlights really arent bright enough. At first it was because my headlights were fogged up so i used magicx and it did wonders on my headlights. But now im looking for something more bright also whiter lights that won't end up blinding other drivers as well like HIDS which in the end would cost me to much. Are there any aftermarket halogen bulbs that are brighter and wont burn out so fast unlike the sylvannia bulbs?

- Thanks greatly appreciate it!

I stick with Silverstar ultra's.

They are a little pricey at ~50 bucks a pair, but I feel that they give off a really nice bright white.

They do not last as long as oem replacements. I would say if you get a year out of them your lucky, and 8 months is average.

All silverstars are really hit and miss. I would look elsewhere.

Google up Philips X-treme power or OSRAM Nightbreaker bulbs.... those two are the brightest halogen bulbs available AFAIK.

If you really want to hear something funny about this subject.

Osram and slyvannia are both owned by the same company. Phillips.

My dad works in selection electronic components, switches, chips, voltage regulators, and Osram is one of his companies that he represents.

They all have seperate headlight divisions.

The slyvania plant is in new hampshire, and has a amazing BBQ place next to it. (We rent a cabin near a lake in NH and the plant is right down the road)

edit*
Phillips sold slyvannia.

hm i wonder why some products are better then the other then. I've looked into the Philips H4 X-Treme Xtreme Power bulbs but most reviews have said its more 'yellow' compared to sylvannia and i havent found much info on how long they last. SHould i get H4 or H7 bulbs?

- thanks

I did a review on the Philips Xtreme...by more yellow, think more straight up light. The silverstars have a silver cap on them and have a blue tinted bulb. The philips xtreme are clear all over.

Talking about lifespan, that is the problem with halogens...the brighter you get the less the lifespan is. If you are looking for something that will last longer with some more brightness....I have 2 recommendations for you.

1. Sylvania Cool Blue. The shoot out a whiter light, which I had in my 1990 geo prizm lsi. They actually were a pretty decent light for 23 bucks, and have a long life.

2. I believe, going off the top of my head with no google (oh no...), they are called xtravision. (just googled ) and they are!!!! They aren't as bright as cool blue, but they last longer.

One thing you have to remember in defense of the yellow bulb. Your corolla or prizm is a Daily Driver, so you drive in bad conditions sometimes. The yellow helps you too see better in rain and snow. Hence yellow street lights.

Hope this helps...

DRL's are mandatory here in Canada, so I haven't disable mine.

I'm running PIAA Super Plasma GTX's, good light output, but hope I can get that kind of bulb life out of mine.

If you have a 2002 Corolla, you need 9006 for the low beam, and 9005 for the high beams.

I like the Silverstars and Silverstar ultras, but I had a friend who worked at Sylvania, so I got them for free :-)

Thanks for the tips guys! I'm considering the phillips x-treme bulbs or i might try some sylvannia cool blues because i've heard that last pretty long and brighter then stock. I just need something a tade more brighter because the other day while driving i thought my lights went off until i stopped behind another car and saw the reflection and everything was still working haha
