CV joint damage?

CV joint damage?

When I hard-turn my steering wheel to its end, either right or left, I reach the end and quickly rotate back to the normal position. I do not often hard-turn my steering wheel to its extreme, but circumstances do occur and it worries me that I may damage the CV-joint or any joint that gets pressured due to extremely turned steering wheel.

Q:
1) Is it the CV joints that I damage when I hard-trun the steering wheel to its end?

2) Is there a paint or spray to protect the CV joint boots? It looks like pleated rubbers, and I want to know whether there is an all-season protective coat/material for these joints.

3) How long do CV joints last? 50K or 100K miles or more?
Thx as always.

whats your problem now? your wording is a lil weird. as for protecting your CV joints. there's really nothing you can do to protect them. i wouldnt even recommend regreasing them. sometimes the best policy is if it aint broke dont fix it. as for CV damage and what to look for. if you find it is VERY hard to turn one way or another while rolling but not stationary and/or if you hear a THUMP THUMP THUMP noise as you accelerate, decelerate, or turn.
short of hitting a CV joint with a hammer or cutting the boots theres nothing, driving-wise, that will damage a CV joint. the axels are MADE to turn from pinion stop to pinion stop. if they weren't then there'd be no point to them.

that being said. its bad for the power steering system (pump, lines, and rack) to be held at the stops for long periods of time (think more than two minutes). if you have to take a sharp corner turn the wheel til it stops then turn it back just a smidge. that way you prevent steering system damage.
