Jet Chips ECU upgrade? Most say chips aren't worth $, but has anybody tried? Tested?
Has anybody out there gotten one of these or know anybody who has? 2001 Corolla for example.
Jet Chips ECU Upgrade Kit - 1990-2007 Toyota Corolla
Anybody seen any tests, reviews? I realize most people say that chips or chip upgrades don't give good results, but it would be interesting to find out exactly what they are capable of.
jet chips have been proven time and time again to do nothing on many different cars. for the money you sink into that, you could buy a megasquirt and actually gain something, because then with proper dyno time and tuning, you would gain power, and a higher rpm.
Ok, fair enough. So Megasquirt replaces my ECU as far as FI is concerned? I guess unless I mod my car it's not going to provide much no matter what I do to the ECU. Perhaps cai and exhaust, then ECU mod.
I know the guy who owns URD and he set me up with this MAF Sensor calibrator and custom made a wiring harness to piggyback it onto the ECU.
I have noticed better high-speed acceleration and smoother shifting at high speeds (automatic transmission). Also, it seems to have a little more torque and is not as eager to down-shift at highway speeds.
It will never win a drag race with the Auto Tranny, but overall my engine response has improved and I am pleased with it.
I can testify for Jet Chip on domestics, but not on imports - can be mild to very significant gains, all depends on the mods and the engine in question.
Toyota ECMs are notoriously hard to crack, so wonder what they really do to the OEM ECM - they have limited programmability, unless they just rip all the guts out and replace it with a programmable board (hopefully not disabling any body systems in the process). Supposed to send them your ECU, they reprogram it according to the mods that you have, and ship to back to you.
For the cost of a Jet Chip upgrade - I'd go with a piggyback or full standalone setup. More flexibility and future upgrade ability that you can do on your own and not have to send back to Jet (upgrade chip variant).
Toyota isnt VW, you cant just chip them. The resistor this chip is, it does nothing, but consume more fuel/or run your car too lean. Only way to "chip" a toyota ECU is to use a piggybank ECU.
Really you could of just searched for toyota chips from the search button.

So the MAF sensor really works fine and your positive too right?Just want to make sure....

What year is your Corolla? I believe that only the 2000-2002 models with the VVT-i motor had a MAF sensor. If you don't have a MAF sensor-equipped car, this device won't do any good.

hes not talking about some cheap resistor, jet does make actual ecu chips, but as stated above they dont do anything for power on imports. i have built a few megasquirts, there very user friendly, and now with the diypnp kit even easier to build. the only down side is as of now there is no vvti support for them. so non vvti engines work. but i have working on the software support for the vvti. it seems pretty simple, but i still need to get it to work first. so there for my car shall be a test mule. but it does support coil on plug ignition setups and now sequential fuel injection, along with many other features as rpm/load based boost contoll, 2 step, traction control, the list goes on. by far my favorite standalone on the market today. i have tuned quite a few of them. from an all motor itb'd saturn to a turbo 1.8l miata. hell even a turbo 98 mazda 626. all pretty much had the same ecu, and very different applications.

Whatever they are, corolla ECU's arent chippable like VW, etc, which the common mod is to reflash/swap the ecu chip.
In all honesty, if your only mods are exhaust and an intake, forget even looking at modifying or replacing the ECU. I've only used MS v 2.2 and it was quirky and I had problems getting the RPM signal to work, but I'm considering getting the newest SMD version from DIY autotune, the v 3.57.

Then it should work. Gadget (URD's owner) should already have the mappings for a VVT-i 8-gen (4-sp Auto Tranny) so all that would be necessary is for him to program the box and the rest is Plug & Play.
I paid about $400 for the box and the wiring harness about a year and a half ago. If you decide to send him an email, tell him Cyberbilly (my old screen name) referred you.
