correct me if i'm wrong, (which i'm pretty sure i am) but would the awd motor, transmission, the whole 9 yards from a matrix be able to be put into a corolla? i'm not planning on doing this, hell no! i just was wonderin. i was thinkin earlier about how cool it would be
no. the engine and trans would fit, but the problem lies in the driveshaft tunnel, and the fact the matrix uses a completly different rear suspension setup.
you would have an easier time tying to source out parts from one of the japaneese awd counterparts. but even then you still have some issues with the driveshaft tunnel and the fuel tank.
Yeah I was thinking that might be possible by doing these, amongst other things. Move the gas tank and put an aftermarket tank in your trunk. Reroute the exhaust to on the side of the tunney. I think doing these, might be able to fit the rear drive train. I've heard that the Celica GT4 might be a fit with some moddifications. Although, I don't know at all how accurate that info is. These would be a be a better avenue to go.

celica gt4 is wider than our car. there were models in japan and austrailia that came in awd. you would need to get almost a complete car to do this swap the correct way.

You got me interested now. Whatelse would you need besides a gt4 front clip and comlete driveline? I said the GT4 swap because it has the 3sgte. Also this is the swap done to a 2 door hatch Corolla in the World Rally Championship.
2001 Toyota Corolla LE - EBC Ultimax Rotors, HPS pads, Goodridge stainless lines, K&N drop in filter, Magnaflow cat and Exhaust, KYB GR-2, Tein H-Techs
1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo - More mods than Lindsay Lohan has freckles
If i had a lot of money and nothing really to do with it, i would attempt to work it out. i could just buy an awd car, but i love my corolla and would love to see it happen..if i was filthy rich

it would be even harder with the gt4. hell it took team toyota europe almost 400 man hours to build each WRC corolla. it wasnt just a mere swap, they built the entire car. it was an aluminum and carbon monocoque that just resembled a street driven corolla. that thing was in no way shape or form a street legal car. hell only 57 of them were ever built. not to mention the cost of each of them. im not trying to be a downer, im all for bad ass sleepers and being different, but if you have the time, money, and the skills required then i say go for it. but its not going to be easy.

Also don't for get the TTE WRC Corolla is a World Rally car. That meaning it's a presicion racing machine and is beefed up with no expense spared by Toyota. And a road going AWD Corolla could be done at a fraction of the time, money and labor.
I just wanted to point out that the 2 TTE Corolla's were killing the Ralliart Lancer and Charisma and the 2 Subaru WRX's. I think that says something about the Corolla Chassis.
I also say this because I've seen a road going AWD Corolla done by some dude as a project, but I can't find the site again. It was an AE110 chassis and it was converted to AWD with a 3sgte, I think.
And I'm not trying to argue with anyone I just think it's not as impossible as most people say it is.

nothing's impossible. you can do anything with the right amount of money.

im not argueing. i know its possiable with time and money. but the wrc corolla was not a stock corolla. it had some serious thought and planning to go into it, to make it as badass as it was.
