I'm new to Toyotas. Just bought a 00 Corolla LE. It had a very annoying screeching noise. Faint at idle but kinda loud when revved. Noticed the belt had a few chunks missing from the outermost ridge only. The rest of it looked ok, so I replaced it. Noise went away but then came back next day. Replaced the belt again with another brand that was more expensive. Noise has not come back. My questions are regarding the pictures I've attached:
First pic - Belt is not perfectly parallel with the tensioner pulley. With the belt off, there is no play in any of the pulleys and none are wobbling. With belt on and engine running, the PS pulley has a very slight wobble, but doesnt seem bad at all.
Second pic - Checked with my finger and there appears to be powered rubber on that part of the engine.
Third pic - The outer edge of the belt appears to be wearing out already, as the white thread is visible.
The loud screeching noise is gone (for now) but am still unsure if I have another problem that caused the original belt to wear out only on the outermost ridge, and the side of this new belt now looks like it might be wearing too. Thoughts?
