Help with new speaker fitment!!!

So I got a 99 corolla LE and was wondering...

The front speakers are 6 1/2", and i was looking at the Polk Audio DB651, and accidentally just ordered them. Will they fit in my 99 corolla even though they're not the 'S' model? (S stands for slim, of course).

I don't wanna go through the hassle of having to send them back to amazon. :-\

Any help with this wouldbe greatly appreciated. I haven't worked on the front doors and don't want them to hit the window or something! I don't know if the front speakers are shallow mount or not, but crutchfield said they wouldn't fit for some reason, but other sites said they would?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When I was picking out speakers, I had trouble with them not hitting the window when i rolled it down.

You may be able to fab a bracket that pushes the speakers out from the door panel.

Most probably they will hit the window. As Crowbar911 reports: fabricate a bracket for the speaker. Max. depth for the EU Corolla front door speaker is about 7cm (2.8 in). If thicker, the doorpanel won't fit or your window won't be able to roll down all the way.

I've put in 7cm depth speakers, made my own brackets, PITA to make them fit nicely.

On the other hand - this is on an European model, maybe the USA model differs.

I have been searching all over the forums for more information regarding depth also.

It seems like the max bottom depth is 1.5" ? Anything longer will need a spacer. Does that sound right?

If that is the case, these speakers (bottom depth of 2.31") will need a spacer of about .81".

With a spacer of that size, the top depth will be.. 1.63 + .81 which is 2.44".

What does a top depth of 2.44" mean? Anyone? does that mean that the door panel will hit the speaker? Highway_maniac, is your 2.8" the same as the top depth? if so, are you saying that the door panel should fit? does the EU rolla look anything like the american rolla?

Why frabricate? Just reuse the ones from the stock speakers.

Well as I see it, I'm basically going to have to fabricate something. My question is, can I just use spacers and screw it into the door? Or do I actually have to fabricate something to wrap around the entire circumference of the speaker? I heard something about they speaker doesn't sound right unless it's properly fastened snug with the whole circumference of it touching and sealed to the door. Is this true? or can I just get away with using spacer? Ugh, this whole thing sucks! I'm planning on this...

If it, in fact, IS to deep, I'm going to space it out, and if the top mount depth comes out to far, I plan on cutting out the speaker holes in the door panel and simply letting the new speakers pop through. At least then I can put the speaker grille's on it, and it shouldn't look too bad... I hope. Well if someone could clear up the issue with having to seal the speaker or not that'd be great, because then it would be a very simple fix.

2.8" (7 cm) is the max. depth of the speaker, measured in total. In this case, the door panel of the EU model does fit, and the back of the speaker does not hit the window. There is a post in a dutch / Belgian forum about this, link is http://www.toyotateambelgium.be/howto.asp?id=24 if you can't read the text, maybe the pics will be of some help.

Don't know what the USA corolla looks inside the doors, so can't say if this method will work for you too.

if that is the case, these speakers, i which i believe are 2.31" + 1.63"(bottom+top= total depth) = 3.94" will definitely not fit without some changes. am i correct?

Has anyone covered why hitting the window is bad? at that height, the window should be pretty open already.. is it because it will damage the speaker? anyway to stop it from coming down all the way?

overall, I think the speaker mount is excellent, but the final product doesn't look so good

so to compensate for the awful hack job, I'm going to make a circular grill that's bigger than the entire hole and will cover up the imperfections

do you have any pictures of the finished product?

Seriously, just reuse the spacer that the stock speakers use. I think Lincoln did it if I remember correctly. Or do the door panel route like I've done, it's just a lot of work to cut the plastic.
