USA Timing Chain tensioner leak

Ok, so I got hit with the Timing Chain tensioner leak problem on my '99 Corolla. So I'm guessing replacing the O-ring should fix it ?

- Anyone have a pic or guide as to where I would go looking for this ?
- Do I need to reset the tensioner afterwards ?
- What is a reasonable cost to get this done ?

replace the tensioner, new one comes with an o-ring. you need to pop the valve cover off to release the catch that holds the new tensioner compressed.

When replacing it, do any other adjustments have to be made? Or is it a simple remove and replace?

Randini,

When doing this procedure without adjusting valve clearances, do you see any reason to remove the serpentine belt tensioner as well? Seemed excessive from the writeup, but maybe it just clears out some space.

you pretty much just take the valve cover off, take the tensioner out, put the new one in, poke it with a screw driver to release it, and then put everything back together.

I believe the article is excessive. If I remember correctly, you can leave the serpentine tensioner alone, and still have room to work on the chain tensioner... As Bitter said.
