PAY ATTENTION!!!
1ZZ-FE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YEARS ARE AS FOLLOWS!
1998-1999: Ignition: waste spark twin coil pack. Valve timing: non-VVT-i. intake metering: Intake Air temperature and Manifold absolute. intake manifold: Pressure cast equal-runner aluminum
2000+: ignition: Sequential Coil-Over-Plug. Valve timing: intake camshaft VVT-i. Intake metering: Mass Air-Flow. Intake Manifold: depends, some have the 98-99 manifold, others have a black thermo-plastic intake manifold
this should probably be stickied...

the aluminum manifold looks better. i think the plastic manifold looks hideous. but thats just my opinion
and to answer your question. a SRI for an 00 will work on a 01.

they are 03+. and also on celica gt's in 2000. i have one swapped onto my engine. it man a huge difference on power. it has a larger plenum, and shorter fatter runners. it out flows the crappy aluminum one by leaps and bounds. and also allows you to run the 65mm celica gt throttle body. which is even nicer so you can use 3in piping on your intake. as seen below on my dirty daily driver. you can also purchase the manifolds from rock auto for just under 200 brand new, or watch ebay for one to pop up. make sure to get it with throttle body if you can. i also have a spare manifold, but its for drive by wire.

I read about someone swapping in a 03+ 1ZZ to our gen and have to retain the aluminum manifold for clearance. Does it mean the entire engine can be dropped in and still clears the bay? There's some talk about keeping the 8th gen exhaust manifold gives us more power tho.

Have to match the intake characteristics to the powerband that you want to focus on. The longer aluminum intake runners and the OEM exhaust manifold matches the fatter torque curve on the 8th gen engines - which makes a good amount of torque off idle (meat of power band is in lower RPMs).

If you tend to run the engine out to redline constantly - then a shorter, wider intake manifold will make use of the better flow at higher RPMs. Of course, it is best to run an EMS system to take advantage of the higher flow.

The composite plenum of the 9th gen Corollas (2003+) was chosen to shift the power band upwards. It is complemented with a revised camshaft profile and ECM retuning as well - which swells the power band in the mid-range to upper RPMs.

Not sure what the exact numbers will work out to, if you run a 9th gen engine with an 8th gen intake and exhaust manifolds - but given that this swap has be done several times and no one seemed to have complained, I'm guessing they are not seeing much issues with power. If anything - the revised camshaft and tuning probably makes the car feel more powerful.

I'm curious to see how much of a benefit there is in reality from doing the swap.

If anyone does decide to go through with it, then please post some before and after dyno charts to confirm any gains that may occur.

i only listed differences in the 1ZZ-FE in general. and 2000 celicas have 1ZZs with black plastic manifold. it is true that no 8th gen came with the black plastic but there were 1ZZs manufactured in 2000 that have it
