If the car is going to be driven on the street, then I would not recommend getting any type of roll cage at all.

In the event of an accident, your chances of sustaining head trauma go up exponentially if you don't always wear a helmet.

Something to think about.

It doesn't matter if it's padded or not because under the strain of an impact from behind, the "show-cage" might even collapse, fold on your head and kill you if it's poorly built.

If the OP does desire a rollcage for a dedicated track car, then he should get one professionally custom built from a reputable shop that has lots of experience. This is one modification that SHOULD NOT be taken lightly.

I think that you're misunderstanding my point here, a rollcage will only benefit in the end that you're involved in an accident where the car actually rolls over onto it's roof. For instance, on a race track. It keeps the car's passenger compartment intact so the occupants can get out safely.

In a head-on or rear-end collision, it's actually safer for the cars chassis to collapse and absorb the impact, deflecting the forces away from the occupants. Two completely different scenarios.

That's a relief... didn't want the OP to get the wrong idea.
