So has anyone done a projector retrofit on a 99 corolla before? I want to install a projector and use a true hid on the car. Does anyone know if there is a DIY anywhere out there for 99 corolla?
That will finish your head light nicely after you mount and aim the projectors. Then you will need a d2s HID kit (bulbs, ballasts, wire harness) to light it up. You can use any ballasts, but I recommend true OEM Phillips 85122 bulbs because they have the best beam pattern.
DDM Tuning has the best HID kits for the price! You can also get 50~55 watt ballasts for even more light!
Iv done a retrofit on a 99 and 2001, theres no DIY thyre way too tedious and time consuming. But the effort goes a long way and im happy with the end result
Does that mean that you still have the headlight housings for a 99 laying around that are already retro-fitted?
yeah, do that, it is really nice..... only a few potential problems!
it says "55 watts" but it is almost always more like 50 or LESS
If you don't use philips OEM 82155 bulbs, there will be a ton of heat which will most likely damage the projectors
if you have a failure, it might cost more $$$ to replace a 55 watt ballast/bulb

good luck!
ah ok, i'll have to think about it then, maybe go with 35w on the safe side. i'm looking at the fx-r complete kit with everything at the moment.
i'm upgrading from a mod-express kit so not that much more work other than the retrofit. awesome, thanks. i've been wanting to hear more opinions from those who got the fx-r.
I'm looking into starting a retrofit on my '01 and was wondering what the cheapest projectors are to start this? I'm hearing Cadillac and E55 but the E55 are bi-xenon which I don't really need since I have a separate high beam...

mod-express kit just stands in for whatever bulbs you're using. Sure you can keep the ballast but you still have to do the actual retrofit and buy the pair of AMP->D2S adapter.

I went bixenon (I did mine before the FX-R projector came out) and went the extra couple miles to mod the wiring so that I keep the high beam bulb for DRL with the ability to flash it instead of the HID when it isn't on. This is a big mod and required couple weeks of planning around the factory wiring diagram, but the results are totally worth it.
Just by looking at TRFS seems like FX-R is still the cheapest.
