pictures of taking out the starter for 1999 corolla.

I've read the following links and I'm still not sure how to remove the starter for my 1999 corolla. I'm planning for the easiest route.

anyone have a picture tutorial? It seems taking out the fan cover is the easiest method instead of taking out the intake manifold?

Thanks,
Gordon

the only time i had to remove mine was when i was swapping the engine, so the fans, and IM were already off. u can do it either way as u see fit, as u read in the other thread, both ways work.

the starter is located right under the intake manifold, pop the hood, look pass the aluminum manifold, u should see a cylinder shaped thing lying horizontally. that's your starter.

the starter is held on by 2 bolts threaded in from opposite sides, meaning, 1 bolt threaded in from the left through the block and into the started, the other threaded through the starter and into the block. the starter itself has a connector on it, and a wire held on by a 10 mm nut (you have to disconnect them from under the car, as both of them are located under the starter), disconnect those 2, and take the bolts off, the starter should slide right out.

take of the fan shroud....(some people remove the lower radiator hose which is a pain on its own unless you're doing a full fledged coolant swap)

take of the intake box (not manifold)

take off the plastic covering from the bottom...

remove oil pressure sensor switch of the top of the oil filter housing

approach from bottom

they are opposing bolts

the lower one faces the passenger side

higher one is located under the intake box

in and out 45 minutes or an hour with wrap up time....

make sure to tighten bolts properly cause starter motors have torque!

this is my third starter... you'll most likely change it again in 75k miles

remember... part of DIY is learning as you go along.......

have i missed a few steps? SURE!... that just means you have to fill them in!

thank you huangxin for all the explanations, but there are so many specialized words, i'm very confused! spent 2 days removing bolts, etc, but i still can't not remove the starter! i used a hammer and a tube and hit on the starter, but it doesn't come off! please help! thanks!
