Front Bumper Cover

Hey guys, well I was on my way to work new years eve and got hit by someone pulling onto my street ( It had just snowed). They slid into me and tore my front bumper and my hood is a little screwy now too.

Anyway I am looking to fix this as cheap as possible with the money I received. I found brand new covers online for about 70$ + shipping but I thought it would be easier to find one the same color at a salvage yard, so I have been calling around. I have called many places and no one has the part I need. One woman who I spoke with suggested I buy new and spray it with a 25$ can of aerosol paint from Napa. According to her it would look fine with a steady hand and a clear coat on top.

Does anyone have any experience doing this, obviously I am not worried how well it matches or I would just have it done professionally. I'm just trying to save some money and have it look decent.

Let me know what you guys think, any recommendations?

ok i was gonna tell you a wholesaler in Brooklyn where you could buy the part body shop price and not pay shipping but being youre several hundred miles from NY, that isnt an option. I will also say that I used to hang out up that way in Northampton as i used to have a girlfriend up there. Her dad taught at Umass but anyway
the problem with just painting the bumper with a spray bomb is that it will peel. The body shop puts prepsall on the bumper then sprays some kind of thing on it not able to be bought in a rattle can that makes the paint pliable so it will give when someone bumps into the bumper. I se alot of people just getting black bumper covers and leaving them the factory black and that depending on the outside color of the car dont look half bad
the other alternative is if there is a trade school there that teaches autobody work you can prolly get a deal to let them paint the cover for you

Yeah I go to noho quite a bit being it's only two towns over, and I live right off of campus at umass, small world.

You're right about the whole spray paint thing I guess I was just wishful thinking

I talked to an auto body place around here and they said they could get a new cover for $80, which is a lot less than it would be with shipping online. I think I'll go with the paint-less idea for now then maybe try and find a small shop or tech school to have it painted in the future.

Thanks for the tips.
