My 02 CE auto has overdrive?

Hi. I recently purchased a rebuilt 02 corolla CE. To my surprise it has overdrive. I was under the impression that the CE was the base model for the 2002 year being equipped with the 3 speed no overdrive transmission. Is it possible this car is an LE and the trunk may just have been replaced with a trunk with CE badging? I was told the damage was not to the trunk and the trunk has never been replaced. Or did some CE's come equipped with 4 speed/OD automatics? Thanks.

AFAIK, they only came with 3-speed autos.

Your car maybe have been an rebadged LE.

Run your VIN @ Toyodiy.com to find out for sure what trim it is.

I was under the impression the VE was the base model.

Before the 2000 LE I have now, I owned a 98 CE, and it had overdrive.

The VE was the base model up until 2001, where the CE replaced it.

Does the trunk lid have the VIN sticker in it, or is it one marked "R-DOT"?
If it's a VIN sticker, does it match the dashboard or doorsill VIN sticker? If it doesn't match, or it's the "R-DOT" sticker, the trunk lid's been replaced.

as far as i know, CE did come with the 4-spd A245E

VE was the only model to be equipped with the 3 spd A131L. CE, LE, and the S had the 4 spd.

The 3spd tranny was dropped along with the VE model in 01.

I have a 2000 VE (Canadian made) with air and auto and its the 4 speed.

In hindsight I am really glad I got the 4 speed, I never would have thought how much less it would rev at highway speeds compared to the 3 speed.

Still never figured out if it has a 3 speed or 4 speed. Has overdrive.. but it's a CE which is listed in all the consumer guides as being the base model with 3 speed auto for 2002. But those are all american guides. Were the canadian models made with 4 speed/overdrive even in the CE in 2002? Any canadians here have a CE? Does it have overdrive?

Does the shifter have another button below the shift lock button labelled Overdrive?

Compare the shifter, if yours looks like this one, then you have a 4-speed.

Yep sure does.. also I've seen a few other CE's for sale here in Canada and they all have it as well. The 3 speed in 2002 CE's must have been an american only thing I suppose. Thanks!
