Some here took a motor out of a 10th gen (I think it was anyway) and put it in his. So a 9th gen will drop in just fine. Your going to have take the ECM with the motor.

Its 2005. The guys name is huangxin.
Yes, that's him. I think what he actually did is swap in a 05 long block and keeping most everything else including ECU. He didn't retrofit electronic throttle.

I got a 2004 Corolla engine using the 2004 intake manifold/throttle body with 2003 ECU wired into my 1998 Corolla. Didn't just swap block like these other people. Does that count?
