Very first question is do you need rear disc brakes when most of the braking is done at the front wheels?

no. drum brakes actually lock up easier than discs will. so it would be harder to ebrake drift with disc unless they have drum parking brakes in the rotor hats.

OP the parts you need are from a ae111. the entire rear knuckle assemblies, cables and brake hoses. you can also use the brakes from a ae92. you have to pull all the same parts no matter which vehicle it comes from.

Here is the saga of the conversion I did. I used the backing plates and parking brake cables from a 96 Celica GT. The 96 Celica GT's had 5 lugs so when I ordered the rotors, I had to drill them out to 4 lugs.

IIRC both of those cars have a drum in the rotor hat. i know nissan used it on cars like the 300zx and 350z. so i have no doubt its on the maxima, but i cant quite remember if i saw them on a mini last time i did a brake job on one. its been a few years, but i do think it had them.

Salty_Dog good info there. looks like it was a decent swap. im not too big on redrilling rotors, but i know alot of people that have done it, my brain just cant let me. good job tho.

So will the 96 or 98 celica rear disc fit directly onto the 01 corolla?

would it matter if it is a gt or gts?

if you cant get them to slide off by hand, try pulling out the rubber plug and adjusting them. sometimes a lip forms on the inside of the drum and the shoes snag on it when trying to pull the drum off. the adjuster plug is on the bottom in the center on the back side. below the knuckle.

ilovecorollale - if you read the link to trd forums you would see Salty_Dog had to do some machining to fit them. they are not a direct bolt on. only rear disc from ae92-ae111's are direct bolt ons. i even think the ae82 rear disc will work. but i have not cross referenced the parts.

Directly? No. If you read my thread you will see that I had to bore out some holes on the Celica backing plates to make them fit the hub. The four bolts are arranged the same way, but are spaced a little differently.

Mine were from a GT. Not sure about the GTS.
