i want to switch all my interior bulbs to leds. dome/map/gauge cluster etc. i noticed you can also get led back up lights... now i currently have 5% tint on all my windows, and trust me its hella hard to see out durin the night lol. so i was thinking, the stock bulbs for the back up lights dont do much for looking in the mirror, and normally have to roll down my window and look for myself. i was wondering how much brighter will the leds make that light opposed to the bulbs. enough to make a difference? or like the same?
and also i have seen people wire in lights to the door jams. such as i love how suvs and things like that when you open a door it lights up either the ground or the side of the door.. what would be the easiest way to wire these? only thing i can think of is splicing them to the power of the dome light but that would make every door light up instead of just the open door. only other way is wiring them to the sensor that tells you the door is open. any ideas??
hey, well LEDs in back up lights, especially the lights on your car, are not good at all. They will probably be dimmer. If you do want LEDs though, go for ones with lots of large LEDs facing all directions. But, they are a lot of money, not worth it imo unless you want the look.
As for the ground lights, I have never seen a vehicle that didn't switch all of the lights on when a door opened... I think your best be is just to go with the ceiling light, so that they all turn on at the same time. This is what I did.
Back up LEDs would be horrid. LEDs are brighter to look at, but poorer at illuminating stuff. (Does that make any sense?) I wired my footwell lights directly to my ignition light. If you check around the forum, I posted some pictures. I love it. It turns on when I deactivate my car alarm, then turns off when I start the car. Just be sure to disconnect your battery so you don't blow your integration relay, like I did.

Straight wire, no fuses. The LEDs I used had built in load resistors. Because I am tapping into the ignition wire, I assume the fuse on that would function for all. Not the BEST was to do it, but quick and effective. LEDs have such a low power pull, I'm not too concerned.

You're in the same boat as I am with my '01 LE. The 921 wedge base bulb has no real upgrade path, and the LED conversions are pathetic. If only they used the 1073, 1141, or 1156 bulb instead, since there's a 35W upgrade called the 796 that works great, has the same filament placement so the focus of the light isn't changed, and doesn't have heating issues like the 50W burners have (which can melt lenses and whatnot). I have a set of those in my Previa and they are absolutely fantastic.
Im interested in this floor lighting set up. How many white led's do you think it would take to light up the floor space in front of each seat? And where is the best place to splice into the dome light? Would it get enough power if they are all on in parallel? Any pictures would be appreciated
