1999 Rattling Noise! Please Help

Got a 1999 Toyota Corolla CE w/60,000 Miles. Just got the car 2 days ago. I noticed after about 4 mintues after start up their is rattling noise coming directy infront of the engine. Right side of the alternator is where it is the loudest. Noise stays on during all accelerations and at idle. Anyone know what that could be? I can see its not a OEM serpentine belt but noise is not loud at that area, noise is loud on the right side of alternator. Anyone knows??????

Could be loose belt or the pulley of alternator is loose and needs to tighten the bolt.

Lose firewall plate, most likely. If it sounds just like metal on metal slapping or somone playing the drums on a tin can. Mine was loose also, would rattle whenever i came to a stop.

First check the oil level, second remove serpentin belt and start car dont run it for long just check the noise is gone.If the noise still there locate IAC valve conector is on the bottom of throttle body disconect it while running , your RMP should raise and noise should be gone .In my option is IAC Idle Air Control Valve when getting old start to vibrate and with air passing make that crazy noise. You will get check engine light to reset disconect one batery terminal for 30 seconds.

HI
do you have loud noise when you start cold and goes away after driving few miles? I had a similar problem with my 2000 CE. it was coming from serpentine belt area, changed tensioner pulley but problem remained and then changed belt and there you go car is silent as dead. just buy a cheap serpentine belt (duralast $ 12.00)from autozone and try that before trying anything else.
