electrical help

A coworker has a 2001 Corolla and had some battery issues this morning. After getting the battery sorted, she now has no power to the interior fuse box, so no dash, brake lights, etc. My question is how does the power get from the under hood fusebox to the interior fusebox. As a bit of a help it is suspected that the battery may have been connected backwards (pos to neg) during an attempt to jump the car. I am fairly mechanically inclined, but have no experience with Toyotas. Is there a fuse in the main box that feeds the interior box?

Thanks

Check the fuses under the hood and under the driver's side kick panel. If she still has the owner's manual, it has all the fuse identification and what it affects.

Don't need the manual to know what fuse is connected to what system, it's written on a diagram on the cover. Anyways, the engine fusebox shouldn't be feeding the interior fusebox....

if your terminals were connected backwards im surprised the computer didnt short out or the battery explode.. hope thats not the reason. in my opinion i would say bring it to a proper auto technician rather than snooping around yourself if your not familiar with cars

edit: familiar with this cars electronics*

Thanks for your help guys. I went through all of the main fuses with a meter, and they were all good (BTW the interior fuse box is fused under the hood). It turns out there is a 100amp fusible link under the dash that went up, she took it into the stealer and they found & fixed it so she is back in business. FWIW I have been building cars since I was 16, and the thing I have learned is to ask people who are familiar with a car before starting from scratch myself, and it wasn't me who had anything to do with the jumper cables being connected backwards.

I have only recently given 1 jump start in probably goin on 10 years now or more, still did not want too. I let the other guy hook up his battery first, checked his connections then I hooked into my battery. Luckily it was a 00-01 Prizm and it took right off soon after connecting. I instantly disconnected.

A lot of damage can quickly occur from a botched jump start, that is for certain.

Nice they got it going without alternator damage.
