Noise in Reverse on 98 Corolla
Hello everyone, just joined.
I recently bought a 98 corolla (my third corolla) and everything on it is pretty much perfect, except one thing.
When I go in reverse, a grinding/rumbling noise comes from what I THOUGHT was the brakes. It occurs in reverse, and then for about 50 to 100 feet after I start travelling forward again. However, I've taken it to 2 places, who both told me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes -- in fact, both places told me that the brakes are essentially new.
One place said that the rumbling could be coming from the brake pads, that are in fine shape, but they simply could be cheap, hard pads, that simply make more noise when in use.
Both places also said I still had plenty of pad/rotor left, and that if I don't mind the noise, then I shouldn't worry about it. I had the transmission checked, and found out that it is fine as well, with suspicions that it could be a gear problem of some kind. They even said that the ATF looked rather new.
Has anyone ever had problems like this? Could it be the suspension? Should I worry about it? Thanks for any info.
