Need a bit more information - metallic squeaking noise? Chirping? Does the noise get better or worse under any conditions/how the car is driven?

Could be a number of things - possible not even related to the transaxle. Some common trouble areas - sepentine belt, belt tensioner (sound are be hard to pinpoint), metal to metal contact (broken or weak mounts), brakes, etc.

thanks for the reply, and it sounds like a metal noise. also i noticed that when cruising and the rpms are around 2000 the car seams to lose power for a quick second and then it kicks back. i was thinking that maybe it was slipping.
